THIRD ALBUM This new opus, which is composed of ten pieces, digs a furrow beginning on "ADN", then draining all along the following tour. The official LIVE (2003) announced a striking evolution in the play of High Tone - with a Dub base being tensed by a surpassing electro-mix. If the experiment Highvisators had been a "back to the roots", they assert themselves on Wave Digger. A more electronic sound, even definitely indus (" Headline "), an unsettled hip-hop (" Larsen " with the excellent Real Fake MC) or a more funky one ("Spacedunk " feat.2TT), a jungle ultra break and much more radical than before (" 9 Bass Channels ", " Hangar 94/05 "), a view of dub more lissome and sometimes quite manic (" On the Roof "). The low tempo pieces " Sushit " and " Musical Bonzeye" remind nevertheless of the constants in the High Tone universe: delicate melodies and samples seeming to come from elsewhere. A ten minutes musical odyssey, totally lyric, closes this palette (" Afraid of nothing ") reminding of DJ Cam of "Substances", a long beach of strong melancholy illustrating marvelously the sample introducing the song: "Here is a story about being free..."
HIGHTONE The adventures of this "club of five" musicians descending the hill of the Croix Rousse quarter in Lyon took up in 1997, while the free parties were swinging in whole Europe..and while , between the two rivers in Lyon, the new, solidly united scene started to rinse our ears in a cheerful sonorous effervescence. A music which was instantly auto qualified as Ethno Dub - to avoid question of metaphysical or simply media-orientated questions ... and High Tone directly catapulted head of the "hexagonal dub scene" (with Improvisators Dub and Zenzile); a scene which gave a second youth to the the so-called dub in a direct live version, unlike her big sister in Great Britain that was reigned by machines in studios voracious for remixes. Since then, High Tone have constantly reinvented their music, highlighted by their unique video projections. Today this music fully surmounts the simple limits of dub. |
